YEAR 2002 TRIP

SIR JOHN JOHNSON MANOR HOUSE 2002 MOHAWK VALLEY TRIP - Sept. 27 - 30, 2002

Many families in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) are descended from the Loyalists who under Sir John Johnson fled from the Mohawk Valley during the American Revolution to Canada. Sir John Johnson led the First Battalion of the King's Royal Regiment of New York on several raids into the Mohawk Valley. He later built a manor house at Williamstown, Ontario. Today the Sir John Johnson Manor House Committee is preserving and restoring this historic site.

The the Committee is planning a four-day Fall Trip to the Mohawk Valley from September 27 to 30, 2002 to visit the historic sites pertaining to these Loyalist ancestors. The purpose of the trip is to raise funds for the Manor House. Edward Kipp and George Anderson of St. Lawrence Branch are leading this tour on behalf of the Manor House Committee. They both have SD&G roots and have led several successful Loyalist bus trips to the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys.

The tour will tentatively visit the Sir John Johnson Manor House near Saint Mathieu-sur-Richelieu, the Restoration of the Sir John Johnson Tomb at Mont-Saint Gregoire, the Lake George Battlefield, St. George’s Church in Schenectady, Fort Johnson, Johnson Hall, Fulton County Courthouse, Guy Park, Sir William Johnson Park and other Johnstown historic sites, the Old Stone Fort Museum in Schoharie, Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia, the Fort Klock Battlefield, the Indian Castle Church, Fort Stanwix and the Oriskany Battlefield. The bus will also be pausing at many other historic sites during the tour.

The bus will leave from the Sir John Manor House, Williamstown and travel east to Montreal and historic sites pertaining to Sir John Johnson in Quebec. The bus will then head then south along Lake Champlain and the Hudson River to the Mohawk Valley. The return trip will be via Interstate Route 81, the Ivy Lea Bridge and Highway 401 to Williamstown. The trip is open to members and friends of the Sir John Johnson Manor House Committee and the general public. The number of people is limited to 47 people. This four-day trip will cost $450.00 in Canadian Funds per person based on sharing double accommodation. Single accommodation will cost $630.00. This fee will include transportation, hotels, and admission to each site. Meals and health insurance are not included. Participants should have their own health insurance.
