YEAR 2000 FALL LOYALIST MILLENNIUM HUDSON VALLEY TRIPOne hundred and eight Loyalists and friends from across Canada and the United States enjoyed a four day historic trip to the historic Hudson Valley. Many of them walked in the tracks of their ancestors or visited Huguenot homes where their ancestors used to live. The tour visited historic Albany, Schuyler Mansion, Crailo (the original home of the Van Rensselaers), the Palatine Monument and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Camp. West Camp was one of the first places where the 1709 Palatines settled. The bus then toured the historic Kingston Stockade and the Old Dutch Church in Kingston. Original 17th century Dutch and Huguenot houses in Hurley and New Paltz were also visited. Participants also saw the Old Parsonage, Trinity Lutheran and Reformed Church in Germantown (East Camp) where the 1709 Palatines also settled. There was also a bus tour of Germantown. The people also saw Clermont, the home of the Livingstons who were one of the landlords of the 1709 Palatines. Here the Palatines were to make tar from the sap of the pines for British ships. The Branch would like to thank George Anderson and Edward Kipp for organizing the trip. Thanks are also extend to Catherine Tanser for organizing the Hamilton bus and Marilyn Branch, Beverly Craig and Noreen Stapley for supporting the trip. |
