W. BRUCE HUTCHISON

Mr. Hutchison was born in Prescott, Ontario on June 5, 1901, and attended school in Victoria, B.C. He has been the Editorial Director of The Vancouver Sun since 1963. He began his journalism career as a political reporter in Ottawa in 1925, was Associate Editor for The Winnipeg Free Press from 1944 to 1950 and Editor of the Victoria Daily Times from 1950 to 1963. Mr. Hutchison is considered one of Canada's foremost authorities on political and economic affairs and is well- known in Washington, D.C. journalistic circles.

 Mr. Hutchison has traveled extensively and is a well-known Canadian author of several books:

 "The Unknown Country", published in 1943, winner of the Governor- General's award.

 "The Hollow Men", published in 1944.

 "The Fraser", 42nd in the "Rivers of America" series, published in 1950.

 "The Incredible Canadian", published 1952 (biography of Rt. Hon. William Lyon Mackenzie King).

 "The Struggle for the Border", a novel, published in 1955.

 "Canada: Tomorrow's Giant", published in 1957.

 "The Western Window", published in 1967.

He has written numerous short stories  which have been published in the "Saturday Evening Post", "Colliers", "Cosmopolitan", "American", "Liberty", and was the first winner of the award for Distinguished Journalism in the Commonwealth, given by the Royal Society of Arts, London, in 1961. Recent recipient of the  Order of Canada.

Mr. Hutchison is married, has two children, and resides in Victoria, B.C.
