COLONEL EDWARD JESSUP UPDATE

FROM THE PRESIDENT’S KEYBOARD

It was a great pleasure to see sixty members and friends at our Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 24th.

Loyalist Certificates were presented to two distinguished looking gentlemen, Gary Jessup and Leonard Delaney by Regional Councilor, Roy Lewis.  Others receiving certificates recently but unable to be present are Sandra Lawn, Arthur Pegg, Hazel Shaver, Gary Clarke and Edwin Clark.

Two ladies, members Florence Lindsay and Venora Bradford, were presented with flowers in honour of their reaching a  special age.

During the election of officers, Gary Jessup was added to the executive as 2nd Vice President.  What could be better than having a descendant of Colonel Edward Jessup on our executive!  It was a pleasure to have several other members of the Jessup family in attendance and joining Gary as members of the branch.

Mark Jodoin, author of “Shadow Soldiers” showed slides and spoke on the background of several Loyalists and their part in the Revolution.

Special thanks to the flag bearers, Gillian Pritchard and Hillary Green, to pianist Terry Hicks and to all the members of the executive for their assistance before and during the event.

UELAC Conference 2011 will be held in Brockville on June 2, 3 and 4 next year.  Plans have been formulated for an exciting time.  Brochures advertising this event are on their way to the 2010 Conference in Vernon BC.

Wiltse cemetery will be mowed this summer by a student from Athens District High School who is doing this job for his volunteer hours.  It was mowed and trimmed once already and looks great.

We are looking for a few people with some knowledge of Land Records to assist in the research for our HOUSES book.  That research has begun but more people working on it would be a bonus.
