29th June, 1796
Addison, Rev. Robert - of Niagara. Stating that he formerly laid a petition for a grant of any vacant land that might lie between the lands of Daniel Servos and the lands granted to one Cockle lying westward of the four mile creek in the township of Newark, and also that he might be admitted in administering to the effects of one John Snow, to have a small parcel of lands lying eastward of the said creek within the reserve being about 3 acres which were granted to the said Snow, who since died intestate without leaving any heirs in the province. Petitioner has a grant of only 45 acres, and therefore humbly requests that with the above which being near his dwelling place are valuable and desirable to him and that he may have an additional grant of land in what quantity and situation His Excellency shall think fit to appoint. Recommended to make up the land Mr. Addison has received to 1200 acres, there being no vacant land where prayed for, and it being apprehended Snow has heirs, nothing can be said to that part of the petition.
Adrams, Joseph - Stating the petitioner to be a native of England and left that kingdom in the service of Lieut. Pilkington of the Royal Engineers. Petitioner has continued with that gentleman until the present period which he trusts bespeaks his character and prays for 300 acres of land in the back part of the township of Walsingham. Recommended to grant the prayer of the petition.
Barber, Augustus - Stating that he has been settled on lot 9 in the 1st concession Darlington, and having improved the same prays to be confirmed in said lot with its broken fronts. Recommended that lot 9, 1st concession Darlington township to Augustus Barber with broken fronts be reserved for the petitioner, until he produce the Surveyor General Mr. Pierce's permission to settle it, or until the town of Darlington is laid open in which case the petitioner to have a grant of the lot prayed for.
Burk, James - Stating that he has been settled on lot 16 first concession Darlington, prays to be confirmed in the said lot. Recommended that lot 16 to James Burk be reserved for the petitioner, until he produce the Surveyor General Mr. Pierce's permission to settle it, or until the town of Darlington is laid open in which case the petitioner to have a grant of the lot prayed for.

Clark, James, Senior - barrack master at Niagra and dependancies. The petitioner in behalf of the younger branch of his family consisting of three sons and one daughter natural subjects of Great Britain, all born in the province and having no other prospect but to remain in the province under your petitioners protection, who has been forty-three years a faithful servant to Government, humbly solicits His Excellency for an individual grant of the unlocated lands of this province to each of them, Sarah Clark, William Clark, John Clark, and George Clark. Recommended to appropriate 200 acres to each of the four children mentioned in this petition.

Clark, Mary - Stating that the petitioner is the daughter of James Clark, barrack master at Niagra and dependancies, well known to be a very old and faithful servant of His Majesty's, and being in a situation to improve and cultivate some land prays His Excellency for 1200 acres. Cooper, Thomas - carpenter. Stating that he has been 14 years in the province and to have received 200 acres of land prays for a lot in the town of Newark. Recommended for a town lot in Newark.
Cozens, Daniel - Captain of the late 2nd battalion of New Jersey Volunteers. Prays for such lands, as his rank entitles him to. Recommended to grant the petitioner 3000 acres as a reduced captain, on condition of his actually settling in this province, to which purpose that quantity to be appropriated for him and reserved for eighteen months. If not claimed by his personal application and residence within that time, to be then deemed open for other applicants.
Givens, James - Lieutenant in the Queen's Rangers. Petitioner having served as a volunteer in a company of volunteers raised at Detroit under the Command of Lieutenant Governor Hamilton during the Rebellion in America, was taken prisoner and suffered close confinement two years, praying that his services may be considered, and for a grant of land. Recommended to complete the land grant to him to 1200 acres
Glover, Jacob - Stating that he served during the late war, part of the time as serjeant under the command of Lord Rawdon, and has been in the province nine years and received only 100 acres of land. Prays for a further grant. Recommended to receive 400 acres in addition to the 100 acres he acknowledges to have received whenever he can lodge in the Council office a proper certificate of his having been a serjeant in Lord Rawdon's corps.
Lawson, Abraham, his son 20 years of age, and Isaac Johnson, his son-in-law - The petitioner prays for lot 13 on the north side of Carrying Place, Bay of Quinte; Isaac Johnson for lot 11, and for Abraham Lawson, son, lot 12 on the south side ditto. Annexed to the petition is a magistrate's recommendation of Abraham Lawson and Isaac Johnson. This recommendation will entitle the petitioner to 200 acres each whenever the Deputy General shall be authorised to give it to them.
Lottridge, Robert - A certificate from the land board of Nassau dated 5th of March, 1792 assigned lots 18 and 19 in the first concession. These lots were specified as 100 acres lots but upon examination they found that the first concession were only broken fronts to the second concession containing not more that about 40 acres together. Lottridge's name was entered on those lots in the second concession only. The committee are of the opinion that under the certification of the land board Lottridge can have no claim to lot 18 in the 2nd concession and not being specified therein. - and that the same numbers in the first concession cannot be the lots intended in the assignment as scarcely containing one-fifth part of the quantity specified. The committee referred to the Deputy Surveyor, Mr. Augustus Jones for an explanation declared to the best of his recollections that the land board considered the concessions marked 5 in the plan , in the plan before the board, lot 2 as the first concession and that Lottridge's lots were in that concession and not in the broken fronts.
Selby, Prideaux - Stating that he obtained an order of Council for lot 20 1st township north side of the river Thames. Petitioner understood that said lot contained 200 acres or thereabouts, but by survey of the Deputy surveyor in this district it contains only 111 acres therefore humbly prays for a grant of the 2nd concession of the said lot that it may become an object worthy improvement. Surveyor General to make up the quantity.
Serjeant, Silas - Petitioner is settled on lot 10 first concession Darlington, which he has greatly improved, prays that the said lot may be grant him. Recommended that lot 10 to Silas Serjeant be reserved for the petitioner, until he produces the Surveyor General Mr. Pierce's permission to settle it, or until the town of Darlington is laid open in which case the petitioner to have a grant of the lot prayed for.
Shepard, Samuel - late of the King's Light American Dragoons. Praying for 300 acres of land. Inadmissible, the petitioner having left the province.
Smith, Terence - Stating that his late father was in different employments and received the pay as captain, prays for 1000 acres more. Recommended to complete the donation of 2000 acres to Doctor Smith's heirs they having already received 1400 acres.
Smith, Terence in behalf of Tryphena Cameron - Stating that her late husband William Cameron early in the spring 1776 evinced his loyalty by joining the King's standard at St. Johns and in the year 1777 acted as pilot to His Excellency General Burgoine's army till after the death of General Fraser when he was ordered back to Canada with the general's baggage. She has four small children and prays for land. The petitioner is not residing in the province and no notice can be taken of the petition.
Smith, Terence joint heir with his brother to the late Dr. Smith - Petitioner prays for a grant of Grenadier island suppose to contain 1600 acres as part of the land his late father was entitled to. Inadmissible.
Stegman, John - late lieutenant in the Hessian Regiment of Lossberg. Stating that your petitioner served the American war in the aforesaid regiment until the reduction took place in the year 1783, that his zeal for the service and attachment of the British government induced him to become a settler in this province, and obtained a grant from Lord Dorchester of 900 acres of land and now prays His Excellency for the same indulgence with His Excellency's provincial officers of equal rank with himself. Referred to His Excellency and approved by His Excellency the 5th of July, 1796.
Stewart, Archibald - Petitioner has been 8 years in the province and never received any land, and praying for a grant at the settlement at Long Point. Recommended for 200 acres without specifying the place where.
Thomson, Archibald - Petitioner praying for additional land for his wife and family. To lie over.
Thomson, Archibald - Setting forth that Andrew Thomson, his wife and five children; David Thomson, wife and four children; Ebenezer Carver and wife are arrived from Britain and are desirous to settle in the province and praying for a portion of land. Recommended for Andrew Thomson self and family 400 acres; David Thomson do. 400 acres; Ebenezer Carver and wife 200 acres upon their taking the required oaths.

Abbot, Joseph - Stating that he served 22 years in His Majesty's 26th Regiment 16 years of which he was a serjeant he has a wife and three children and prays for a grant on the river Thames. Recommended to make up the lands already granted 500 acres and referred to the Surveyor General for location in lots 6 and 7, 2nd concession third township north side the Thames if occupied.
Adair, John - Stating that he served as a non-commissioned officer last war in Col. Barton's Regiment and praying for a grant of lands. Recommended for 300 acres, when he appears to claim them if no lands have been already granted.
Adams, Samuel - Stating that he joined His Majesty's forces in Montreal in the 1776, in the spring 1777 he again crossed lake under General Burgoyne and by his order raised a company of Rangers and continued under his direction until his capitulation at Saratoga. Petitioner paid and clothed both them and officers of the said company without any assistance from government except forty guineas received from General Burgoune when he raised the company. Petitioner had one son a serjeant and four sons privates in the said company, and another son a serjeant in Colonel Jessup's Corps, that he never located any lands in the Eastern district where he resides, prays for land at Long Point, having only located 500 acres which the lieutenant holds. Referred to the Surveyor General to report.
Adams, Thomas - a carpenter. Petitioner has been three years in the province and has a family, and that he has received 200 acres and a town lot in Newark which he has considerably improved, and praying for an additional grant at Long Point settlement. Not recommended.
Allan, Ebenezer - Stating that he has made considerable improvements on the lands granted him above the Delaware village and by mistake has built his mill on lot 4 in the front thereof which he has since discovered to be reserved prays His Excellency will grant him said lot. Petitioner has purchased lots 1, 2, and 3 in front of the 4th township on the north side the Thames and praying a grant for his three daughters in the rear of the said lots. The committee cannot recommend the prayer of this petition.
Allen, Samuel - Stating from friendly expressions from Colonel Butler but more particularly from the brother of your petitioner that His Excellency has been pleased to say to him that it might be consistent provided your petitioner should become an inhabitant of the province to grant him 1000 acres of land. Petitioner prays the said tract may be laid our for him upon the road leading from the head of Lake Ontario to the river Thames or elsewhere. When the petitioner comes into this province his petition will be attended to.
Almas, Christian - see Amos, Christopher
Ammon, John Godfry - Petitioner served last American war in the German troops called the Green Yagers under the command of Colonel Creuzburgh and has been in Canada ever since, prays for such quantity as his service may deserve. Recommended for 300 acres as a soldier.
Amos, Christopher (Christian Almas) - Stating that the petitioner has been in possession of lot 19 in the 8th concession 8th township since the year 1789, the late Mr. McCleas has some claim to said lot which the heirs now resign. Impossible to decide on this petition without seeing the parties.
Anderson, Charles - Stating that he came into the province in the year 1788, that he bought 100 acres on the main road leading from Niagrara to Burlington bay, that he as built a two story house and other valuable buildings and has fifty acres under culture. Petitioner married the daughter of an officer,
W. Henry Nellis and that he is a natural born subject of Great Britain and prays for a grant of 1000 acres. Recommended for 200 acres for himself and 200 acres in right of his wife.
Anger, Charles - late of Butler's Rangers. Petitioner has only received 200 acres and none for his wife, prays for the remaining 100 acres and fifty for his wife. Recommended for 100 acres in addition and 200 acres in right of his wife when he produces the required certificates.
Anger, Frederick - son of Frederick Anger, late of Butler's Rangers. Petitioner has received 200 acres, that he married the daughter of Henry Windicker of the above-mentioned corps of Rangers, prays for 200 acres in behalf of his wife. The petitioner's wife's land will be granted when the proper certificate of her being the daughter of a loyalist is lodged in the Council office.
Anger, Frederick, Junior - late a private in Butler's Rangers. Stating that he has received 350 acres for himself and wife but none for his four children which he had on his settlement in the country in the year 1783, prays for 200 acres as family lands. Recommended for his family remainder of lands upon producing the required certificate.
Arnold, General Benedict, Lieut. Richard, Lieut. Henry, and Ensign Edward - Stating they are in the half-pay list as reduced officers and praying for a grant of a township. When these officers appear and incline to settle in this province, the land they are entitled to will be granted them.

Ashley, William - Stating that in the year 1787 Mr. John Collins directed your petitioner to take possession of a lot on Collin's creek, or near to it which he has greatly improved and understands said lot is not claimed by the Rev. Mr. Stuart petitioner prays for 200 acres including his improvements. Referred to the Deputy Surveyor of the district to hear the parties and report thereon.

Baby, James and Francis Esquires - For themselves and in behalf of their brothers, John, Baptiste,
Daniel Dupron and Lewis Baby. Petitioners are natives and inhabitants of Upper Canada wherein they wish to remain, that they have not yet received any land of the Crown, which they hope His Excellency will think them worthy or partaking as well as their young brothers for whom they now beg leave to apply. Wherefore your petitioners respectfully pray that a quantity not under 3000 acres be granted to James Baby, 1200 acres to Francis and each of the other brothers mentioned in the petition. Recommended that 3000 acres be granted the Hon. James Baby being an Executive Councillor and 1200 acres to each of the other brothers.

Bennet, James - Stating that he came into the province 1791 and married the daughter of Thomas Carly, a loyalist, who died of his wounds in the hospital in Charles town, prays for 200 acres in right of his wife and 200 acres for himself. Recommended to be granted if no lands have been granted before, and he produces to the office the requisite certificate.
Bessey, John - Stating that he is the son of Robert Bessey who served in Colonel Butler's Rangers, that he has a wife and two children and praying for lands. Recommended for 200 acres.

Bowman, Jacob and Abraham - Served during the late American war till the peace. Petitioners are desirous of building in the town of Newark, and prays for a grant of a lot each. Recommended for town lots if none have been granted.
Brady, Edward - Stating that he has settled 7 years in the township of Newark with a wife and four children. Petitioner has received 200 acres for himself and 50 for his wife which he has considerably improved. Petitioner purchased lot 9 in the 4th concession township no. 3 from Mr. Thomas Butler for which he gave twelve pounds and has resided on it upwards of 3 years. As security from Mr. Butler, petitioner received a land board certificate but found at the Surveyor General's office the name of Thomas Butler inserted on said lot but apparently never assigned. Petitioner prays the Surveyor General be directed to assign him the same. Referred to the Surveyor General to hear the parties and report.
Bradyman, Christopher - Stating that he has been 9 years in the province and has never yet applied for any land, prays for 200 acres at Long Point. Recommended for 200 acres but not at Long Point.

Brown, John - Petitioner came into the province near seven years since with a wife, three sons and three daughters, that he served His Majesty in the 2nd and 60th Regiments, prays for 650 acres for himself and family lands. Recommended for 300 acres for himself and family lands if entitled to them.

Bryant, John - Petitioner is the eldest of two sons, left by the late Patrick Bryant deceased who served His Majesty diligently and faithfully for 20 years on lake Ontario in different capacities but chiefly and latterly as master which the annexed certificate will certify that his father had never taken up any lands and praying for a grant. Recommended for 400 acres (in consequence of his father's service).

Buchner, Henry, Senior - Petitioner is from Sussex county, New Jersey, where he and his family suffered much for harbouring and assisting loyalists. Petitioner in the year 1786 brought his children into the province, the annexed certificate proves his loyalty and prays that an allowance of land may be granted him. Recommended for his own and family lands, if none have been granted before.

Burlinger, Philip - Stating that he came into the province in the year 1788 with a wife and 8 children, that he is a loyalist for having refused during the war to take the oath to the States, that he lost the greatest part of his property which was very considerable, that he has never received any land and praying for a grant. Recommended for 200 acres and family lands if entitled to them.
Butler, Lieut. Thomas - Stating that he has been long since in possession of a land board certificate for lots 9 and 10 in the 8th concession township of Louth at which he has been at considerable expence in erecting mills but upon his application at the Surveyor General's office found the names of Philip Frey and Co. inserted in the plan of said lots, prays that the Surveyor General may be authorised to insert his name in the place of Frey and Co. Referred to the Surveyor General to report on the merits.
