Brockville Museum is a Jewel in the Community

The United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada held a meeting on November 16 at the Brockville Museum. The association has 29 Branches across Canada. Our mandate, among other points, is to preserve Canadian and, especially, Loyalist history.

We were therefore happy to visit Brockville, which is situated in the heart of Loyalist settlement territory and to see that you preserve your history.

To honour your history, president Myrna Fox of the association proudly presented an Old Union or Loyalist flag to the museum for permanent display. This flag shows the crosses of St. Andrew of Scotland and St. George of England and. was the flag the Loyalists upheld during the American Revolution. It was the flag under which Wolfe fought and died on the Plains of Abraham and it was the flag of Canada until 1801 when Ireland joined the union and added the red cross of St. Patrick.

The Brockville Museum is a jewel in your community. The children's display is hands-on delightful.

We commend the museum board and Ms. Burke for the splendid interpretation of history and, in particular, the Loyalist display.

We also commend the community for its obvious pride and support.
