Annual Mt. Mar. 29, 2003

On Saturday March 29, 2003, 51 Loyalists and friends gathered at the Front of Yonge Community Centre in Mallorytown for a wonderful roast beef dinner and the annual meeting.

We were very pleased to have one of our Colonel Edward Jessup Branch members, Lyle Davidson, play the bag pipes to lead the head table people to their places.

(It was just last year that Lyle joined along with his father the Rev. David Davidson and brother, Bruce Roy Davidson along with David’s sister, Ann Christine Dowker. under their Loyalist Ancestor, William Clow)

Edward Blake carried the colours, i.e. the Loyalist flag in a very dignified manner.

John and Kay Chesser were our guest speakers. They spoke of the hardship of Loyalist Ancestor John Chesser. John and Kay took turns reading letters written by John Chesser, from the American Revolution times, telling of the hardship they endured from the American Patriots.

The Chessers presented Branch President, Myrtle Johnson, with a copy of their book, In Consequence of Loyalty, for the branch library.

Attending the meeting were three members from the Kingston Branch, John Chard and Mr. and Mrs Terry Hicks.

We missed a number of our branch and visiting branch members due to Gene-O-Rama which was held at the same time in Ottawa.

John Chard has presented our branch with a book he has compiled on Loyalist Information. It contains articles, maps, and list several resources that people can use.

We were pleased that 9 descendants of Hendrick Jackson were present to receive their Certificates. They were unable to attend our Charter meeting in the fall to receive them then.
