CHILD SPONSORSHIP
PROGRAM

A project is an entity through which funds are channeled
from the sponsor to the child. It 's a means to enable
well-wishers to assist a vulnerable /orphan child in
poor countries. It's transparent and accountable for
any activity done between the child and the sponsor.
Our main way of fund raising is through a one to one
sponsorship program; sponsor-child relationship which
is not only meant to provide financial support but to
enable sponsor to become part of the mutual sharing
bond which bridges cultures. The opportunity also helps
the child to enrich his understanding of the world through
cross culture conducts with the sponsor.
THE ORPHAN CHILDREN
BFHP has the Board members who manages the organization.
- The Case committee select the needy children which
have been brought in by the local administration,
socialworkers
and other government departments for approval.
- The Board and its staff is gender sensitive.
- After the approval of the case, then the social
workers process the background information of the
child on no.1. forms to look for any willing sponsor
to assist the child.

- Children visit the office every Saturday during
the weekends to correspond with their sponsors.
- We have farm School where our sponsored children
learn about improved way of farming so that uncase
they drop out of School due to lack of School fees
they may venture in income generating activities.
- Youth groups where by we train them on HIV/AIDS
awareness activities In their peers through participatory
methodologies. E.g. role plays, puppetry, poems, Music
etc.
- Networking with other NGO's. BFP refer some sponsored
children to Kanduyi Children's Home where they train
for vocational training e.g. tailoring/Carpentry Course.
We also receive some literature from strategies for
hope series on HIV/AIDS
- Socialworkers visit Schools where sponsored children
learn on child advocacy and children/s rights awareness.
- Socialworkers ensure, that children get their basic
needs, medical examination and are comfortable in
Schools.
- Girl child Education is encouraged.

B.F.H.P
build the capacity of the staff and community based
organizations, community resource persons, teachers
in schools where our sponsored children learn, children
through youth to youth approach ,child to child approach
and members of the community it works with to make them
active partners in outreach work on rights of the children
and HIV/Aids awareness. To achieve this B.F.H.P Networks
with grassroots organization like child welfare society
Bungoma Branch Children department ministry of home
affairs, Ministry of Education , Ministry of Culture
and social services and ministry of health in the government
sector.
BFHP seeks to mainstream gender Equity and ensure children
participation in all programmes and projects using gender
and children responsive planning, programming, implementation,
monitoring and evaluation of projects

We
have 5000,00 children both girls and boys but with a
majority of girls because we are encouraging girl child
Education in the district.
All these children are attending Primary Education and
a few who have dropped out of School due to early pregnancy
have joined Youth Polytechnicsor vocational training.
Over one million children in Kenya are left either
total orphans or with one parent due to HIV/AIDS related
diseases (According to orphans alert news). Our effort
is just but a drop in the oceans as such the Kenya government
with the increasing poverty in the communities cannot
cope with the situation.
Kindly note that we welcome any assistance in kind form
either material or financial. However much concern is
the orphan child sponsorship to enable him/her grow
as any other child in the society.

B.F.H.P
has child sponsorship program where the child and the
sponsor communicate directly. In this process we recruit
genuine cases I.e. Aids orphans and other vulnerable
children who deserve assistance. We have concrete procedure
of assisting this children through trained social workers
and the undertakes stem from sponsorship gesture that
you offer. During the year under review we had a total
of 2500 orphan children enrolled on our program .Areas
that are yearning for assistance incidentally have been
growing just as assistance from sponsors has been dwindling
.Such hard economic and social times have not spared
even the mighty but we are glad to note that you have
stood by our side.
In spite the number of orphans increasing we need more
sponsors . A Charitable organization in Canada has accepted
to come to distribute Bed kits to 3,000 orphan children
in the program. The Bed kit sample consist of a mattress,
two bedsheets, one blanket, a pillow, pillow case, treated
net, one dress, a towel. Its very difficult to bring
up orphaned children without funds. The extended families
who have adopted these children have large families
and they are facing bad poverty.
