DNS - Domain Name Services

Printer Friendly    Email to Friend

DNS (Domain Name Services) can sometimes cause the connection to appear to stop and then start again (no disconnects).

1.       Go to Control Panels and then under the Network Icon go to the Properties for TCP/IP.

2.       For your dialup adapter (you will only have one TCP/IP if you do not have a     Ethernet adapter in your machine).

3.       Under Wins Configuration make sure it is set to "Disable wins resolution".

4.       Under DNS Configuration make sure the DNS is set to Enable and your username is in the host area and ripnet.com or recorder.ca is in the domain area.

5.       Then in the DNS server search order add 66.78.99.4 (then hit the add button) and 66.78.99.5 and then hit add again then OK. Then hit OK again and your machine will ask if you want to restart (say yes).

6.       This should fine tune your machine to work as well as it can. Also, in control panels if it is a home machine without a local LAN network connection (only one computer) make sure ipx/spx and netbui are removed from the installed components in the network control panel.
